1 Year old boy

To my dear Sunny boy,

It still feels like a 'dream' that you are here. Not only you are here, you are a year old. Well, it sounds too filmy, but its true. Everything about you is adorable. For a mum, every child of hers is adorable. I think n feel the same way about Chiku didi, I feel the adorableness for you too. How could I differentiate? Well that explaination goes in another blog/letter. This one is especially for you. You are ONE now. A big boy, soon you will be on your own, fighting and playing with everyone around you, and I would so miss having you as a lil baby.

I love everything about you. The way your hair has grown, a bit scanty but so adorably curly at the bottom. Pair of most beautiful, lovely eyes. I love your lips too, they sometimes look like heart shaped and no wonder I keep kissing you. Your cheeks remind me of chikoos, so lovely to give you 'thuki'.

Thuki is something that you so adorably do. Both you and chiku are so affectionate(Amen!!! don't know how long that would last. I just hope you guys grow up to be Best of friends). Though affectionate, you are not so liberal or lavish with your thuki's. Now let me tell you what thuki is or rather how you do thuki?

  1. You would look at me(or Chiku or daddy or amma)

  2. give a smile, stretch out your tongue out of your mouth

  3. Smile with your tongue sticking out. The Naughty smile!!! you would gurgle.

  4. Then bring yourself close to whoevers cheeks and lick away to glory

  5. And if the other person lets out a loud laugh, you would do it again and again

Thuki is not the only adorable thing that you do. Looking at you sharing your food, makes me wish and hope that you stay this young forever. When Amma gives you grapes and says "baba, give to amma" you so promptly pluck the grapes off, and shove it in ammas mouth. Well thats not it, you would just continue to feed Amma, till she shuts her mouth tightly. And amma generally would burst out laughing.

When you don't want something, you would just throw it off. If you are standing in your crib, one of your ritualistic game is to throw all your toys off your crib. If you are standing infront of an open refrigerator or cupboard, all the contents has to be thrown out. It doesn't matter if the contents are heavy or light. We have realised, that though you look so tini tiny(you justweigh 8.5 kgs and I am waiting for you to put on royally, now and not later) you have all the power in the world. You can push half a bucket water, you can lift few of the toys bag, you can push the dinning chair and certainly pull chiku didis hair with so much force that she would cry.

At the same time, I cannot deny that you adore your chiku didi. You have to follow her wherever she goes. There is no place else you rather be than besides your didi. Its such a blessing to watch both of you play. Chiku would call you and you would go running to her and hug her and give her thuki. Pure Affection!!!

Chiku didi equally loves you. She keeps saying "our baba is so cute na mumma" especially when you are fast asleep :). She is the one who sorts of scolds and coaxs you to sometimes not do certain things and sometimes to do certain things. Together, you guys can totally mess up amma's house (like the way you did it yday, the entire content of the sofa was on the floor and the colors and crayons on the floor and tiles).

I want to just put you in clay and make a mould out of you, Your lovely face, your cute feet, your small palms n fingers. The way you curl your fingers to call the pigeon (come come come) anyone would fall in love with you.

You are 'YOU', though now there is such a stark resemblance between you and chiku. But still you are YOU. And sometimes you remind me of Appaji, especially when you wouldn't eat anything sour ( the list of your 'don;t likes' is huge, bananas, oranges, grapes, soggy biscuits). You and Chiku didi still love Chappatis. And I hope you continue to love it and I hope someday I do learn to make chappatis just like amma does.

The first word and the only word that you say is 'Amma'. Its so cute when you go around calling amma and sometimes when she is in the bathroom, you stand outside the bathroom door, keep banging and calling out "Amma amma". Poor amma, doesn't get time to even peacefully go to bathroom without this nagging thought at the back of her mind that you would be standing at the door. We all are waiting when you would start saying mumma and daddy.

While bathing, You have this fun thing about putting your head under the running water and doing ho ho ho. Sometimes you try and put your head in bucket which is half filled with water. Putting your hand in commode is like the most fun thing that you want to do. The 2 places that you would want to be is 1. in the bathroom and 2. in the balcony.

THe only thing that annoys me to the core, it used to when you were born and continues to even now. Your crying, well actually it is more of wailing than crying. You would cry in your sleep. Thats the most scariest, cos when you would wake up, you would cry non-stop for a good 15 mins. We have come around to your crying thing, trying to feed you more seems to be the answer to all the problems.

The day of your birthday was very very precious. Though we didn't have a grand celebration, we still managed a family celebration, with amma, mama, Chiku didi, u me n daddy. I made pizzas and fruit salad. Daddy brought dutch truffle cake, the only thing pending is your gift. Instead you gave us a precious gift, you chose that day to walk all over the house. Right from the time you got up to the time you slept, you were happily walking n walking n walking.

And on the occassion of your birthday, I want to say 'Happy birthday my darling baby'. I hope and pray that you grow up to a stud of a man, and have both humility and handsomeness in you. I hope that you grow up to be a man of honor and of your words. I hope that you have many friends, and each of them would look upto you as his/her best friend. ButI hope your bestest friend be me. I hope that you grow up and give me a ride to the market or to shop and never ever frown. I hope that you have your faith, where faith should be and love that would guide you and make you strong. I hope that never ever would I find it difficult to figure you out. I hope that you forever have good health and be a cheerful person.

And I hope one day when you read this, you would be happy, happier, happiest.

Luv

Mumma

You decided to pull your antics on your birthday.

Fascinations

...and I don't know where to start from. I really don't!!!

I know that you are all grown up my baby, my Champ!!! and though at such a tender age you are an amazing lil boy!!!

At 5 years, you surprise us. For starters, your drawings has such intelligence that I am in awe!! I think, I should be systematic and store all of them well least I should henceforth -- I might lose a precious one and then it will be too late to make memories.
You once drew an Owl. I would have thought, a kid of your age would just-draw-an-owl. A lil above the owl was a cute moon and that prompted a Q&A session.
Me : Baba, whats that?
Baba : What mumma?
Me : Baba, whats that?
Baba : Thats an Owl. U se Ullu.

Me : Baba, and whats that?
Baba : thats a moon na mumma, you cann't see (with a cheeky smile)
Me : and why did you make a moon
Baba : because I wanted to show that owl comes in night na mumma. You don't know  (with a cheeky smile).

There are times when I think you have outgrown the "hugs" bit and then you surprise me everyday. You run in my arms and ask me to pick you up and then you tell me what you did during the day - which necessarily means how many chocs you ate, how many waffy you ate, how many biscuits you ate, what you drew and if you did eat your tiffin or not.

All I am glad of is that I get one more day to hold you and dread the day I won't be allowed to hug you. Thinking of All this at the same time!!

There are times when you just press your cheeks against my lips and ask me to give you uncountable muchies. Then I am rewarded with one peck on my cheeks!!

You have a real special bond with Cuckoo. Most of the time I can hear both of you giggling and laughing and playing and there are times when I see you fighting. But its just for a fraction of time.

Jealousy is something that keeps you on your toes.
On cuckoo's birthday I was scanning through some baby pix of Cuckoo and You were crying so bitterly cos we didn't look at any of your pics. It was funny then. However, when cuckoo explained that we were looking through her pix Only cos it was her birthday, you automatically declared that it was your birthday the next day and that we will be scanning your pix as well.

You are cute and chubby and I love to cuddle you and hug you and kiss you. You my baby are gonna grow up so quickly and before I know it you will no longer be the tini Boy I know but a big boy.

I hope you grow up to be a great guy and There's so much love always in you.

Luv
Mumma

Sensitive

And Sensible...
Cobwebs irritate me!!! I have been eyeing them for quite some time (Ahhmmmm time == months). This weekends task was bringing all those cobwebs down with a bang!!!

So prompt came out the broom and eyeing at the ones reachable to me, I started cleaning them.
Next, came the turn of the ones that were high up on the ceiling. No super woman here, a quick calculation and realised, I would need a chair to help me reach out and clean up. While still in that groove decided not to break the rhythm and asked for help instead.

Thought should ask for help from Sunny who was playing in the kitchen. Cuckoo is more accomodating and ready to help all the time and Sunny on the other hand has to be pleaded, forced, and begged to help most of the times.

Today was an exception. Sunny looking at me staring at the walls asked me if I needed help.

Sunny - Mumma you no reach?
Me  - Yes Baba
Sunny - Do you need a chair?
Me - jaw-dropped-shaking-my-head in affirmative

He was sitting surrounded by his bfast plate and few veggie bags (which I had got out of the fridge and happily had left it there). Whilst he was busy playing with his Favorite set of cars, rolling them up and down and back and forth on the kitchen platform, he did pay attention to whatever I was asking of him. Thats what caused the jaw to drop ya!!!

So he obediently gets up, picks up his plate and pushes the veggie bags away and then stands infront of the dining table for a good 5 mins. On enquiring what was taking him long he asks which chair do you want? I said any would do. He contemplates and then brings me a chair, places near me and goes about playing with his car.
I continue getting rid of the cobbys. I climb up the kitchen platform and go about doing my work.

Turn around to find the boy was no more playing with his cars and was more interested in alignin the chair to wherever I was. Keeping it as accessible to me as possible.

What was sweet was when I was done cleanin and ready to get off the kitchen platform and climbing down on the chair, Sunny just got up and came to hold the chair!
When I looked questioningly at him, he smiled and said "I holding chair, otherwise you fall na Mumma!

How sensitive and sensible!!!

Luv ya mumma!!

Baba

He is super cute. I love his curly hair, he has got the best curls that I could ever ask for, and hence people sometimes assume that he is a girl. Well, I ensure that I don't dress him anything remotely girlie, can't help it. We has got these lovely set of teeth now, 4 on top and 2 below, a wee bit spacing between his tope two teeth and he looks adorable.

He is a year and 2 months(almost) and certainly has his choice. He loves to see a fimiliar face when he gets up in the morning or else he is grumpy and cranky and goes on with his crying forever (which is getting louder and more dramatic, with Sunny banging his head on the floor).

Whenever I head to the kitchen to wash utensils he will follow me and make me pick him and then continue with my work(well that is impossible). He loves his blue bat and loves to play cricket first thing in the morning. He loves to eat (though he gobbles all the time he is such a small baby). He can eat as spicy as we do at times and has extremely sweet tooth (like his daddy).

He loves going out in fresh air (though I hardly take him). Today, I was cleaning his tongue with my finger and soon after I was done, he puts his finger and starts cleaning his small tongue. His smile is like a bright sunshine.

and the bond between him and chiku is indescribable. No one can make him laugh the way chiku does. She always looks for him when she wakes up and calls up Kuji, kuchi or is it gujji. And she has a song for him too just like meme chakari papa ma, ni shonnu papa ma, ni shoonu kutti ma.

Sunny loves pulling chiku's hair and no end to the kind of things he does to irritate her. Chiku would only shout but never ever hit him back. These days she has become a lil aggressive, when she is angry with Sunny she gently pushes him, but she is always there to correct him. When he goes wandering away to Tv plugs/switches she promptly gets up and holds his hand and brings him back. She smiles and he Smiles back.

Sunny in action

Funny, how children pick up somethings at a faster speed than you can comprehend.

Yday, Sunny took the phone from my hand, and before I could realised, he put the phone on his ears and kept saying loudly "ehhh eehhh ehhh."

He sees his sister writing/doing her homeplay with so much passion that he knows what to do if he has a pencil in his hand. He starts to scribble across the span of the paper. Yesterday just to check what his reaction would be, I offered the pencil closer to his left hand(this was whilst he was standing, and holding on to the wall with his right hand). He took a minute to hold the pencil properly in his left hand. Balanced himself so that his left hand was on the wall, and smoothly took his right hand to grab the pencil and started to pull the pencil across the paper(i have stuck a paper on the wall for these kids like a board so that they can go on with their writing).

He uses chikus toy utensils to skate around. He uses the cup (in a upside down position), puts it under one of his palms and starts to crawl, that gives him speed without putting in way too much effort to move forward. Thats innovative, I thought.
And to challenge him, I once turned the toy cup in an upright position and offered it to him. He looked at it, held it, threw it and finally found a way to turn it upside down again and go on with his skating.
Amazing!!!

These days he is trying to find a way to hold the water with both his hands!!! Lets see what he does!!!

Then there was this one day, when he wanted meme to hold him, whilst he was happily sipping water off his bottle. A few seconds later meme was thirsty so she had a drink from her cup. That probably, send signals to Sunny's lil brains, and he started to thrust the back of the bottle into memes mouth. Meme said "no baba" and he stopped, he took a drink and then again he thrusted the bottle in memes face and he did it over and over again. The smartie, was only trying to help. How Sweet is that???

Funny Sunny Bunny

Sunny is funny and so is the elder sister and so is the mother and so is the father.
Basically, it runs in the family.

Well yday meme gave a long chakli to Sunny. He was holding and sucking on it for quite sometime. I had to take him for a wash soon after that and hence I took his hand closer to my mouth and ate the Chakli while all the time giggling and smiling at him.

Soon after the wash we came back to the hall and meme was eating chakli so she thrust a bigger one in his hand. Instead of putting in his mouth he offered to put it in mine. This was good till the time I willlingly ate it and he giggled. The second time around I objected and kept telling no no no and pushing him away. To which he more than willingly started climbing on to me to thrust the chakli in my mind and all this while grunting (so that I should open my mouth) and giggling when I chose to eat it.

Surprises!!!

Sunny, the stud, is full of surprises. First he surprised us by rolling at 2 months, and then started crawling at 4 months and then standing up at 9 months and it doesn't end there.

The other day, after finishing my coffee I left the coffee mug on the floor, while concentrating hard on the soap on TV. The lil bugger, comes crawling at a speed of light, accompanied with meme's voice in the background which kept telling me to watch out cos he has got his eyes set on to something and I couldn't figure out what. Finally, he picks up the coffee mug with one hand and puts it to his mouth. Thankfully there was nothing in it. The other day, he lifted a bag full of a dozen of small bananas and was trying to throw it off.

The other day he was standing besides the dinning chair, and after fraction of second started moving that big heavy chair. He fond pleasure in doing so and he was moving it all over the place.

He has found a new fancy for cameras and pics. When the flash falls on him, he pushes his head back, snorts his nose, closes his eyes and pulls his mouth to a smile displaying his 2 cute teeth and waits for the 2nd flash to click him.

Cracking the paints on the wall looks like genetic. Chiku used to be so passionate about digging the paints (ya no scratching, it was literally digging) off. So is Sunny passionate, if he is bored of playing with everything else, or on his way to the kitchen, he would take a pit-stop to dig the paints and cement off the wall. Naughty!!!

The lil boy is STILL absolutely fond of water, u leave him with the tap on, and rest assured everything around him well be nice n wet. Loves bathroom a lot, keeps crawling towards the bathroom and wants to just be there.

Sunny, the bunny

Sunny is really the bunny, his antics are so damn precious precious precious. And everytime he does something sweet, I never have my camera around. Though I have a whole load of pics, I don't have the antic bit.

Like the other day, meme gave him a lolly pop and after a couple of swig, I took the lollypop and took a swig, then gave it to him, then took another one, and gave it to him. Everytime I would take a swig he would giggle. His giggling and gurgling are beyond nirvana. So after a couple of times of swig, finally I gave the lolly to him and then while he was taking a swig I asked him "baba give mumma aaaaa " and guess what the lil boy obliged, he would take a swig then give it to me then take another one then give me one bit. And Finally chiku the gunda arrived and stole the lolly from both of us and ate the whole thing up.

At 11 months, he still doesn't say words but some of his actions are so cute. Like he still sucks his index finger when he is very sleepy, and sometimes he puts the other index finger in our mouth to see our reaction and then there his face splits into a smile.

He calls out, most of the time to chiku. He doesn't like it when chiku is fast asleep, he will pull her hair, throw himself on her and try n wake her up. The best times for him are when they both are running around n playing.

Taught him to point out to the fan, and when he does point out (with too much coaxing) its like an achievement. Taught him to do Peek-a-boo, by closing both his eyes with both his palm, but ofcourse the bunny has to have his own style na, so he brings his right palm and covers his head to show his version of peekaboo.
He finds it funny, when I shout at him or glare at him with big eyes. He thinks its some kind of a joke n he smiles. He has got into this habit of stripping the walls of its paint. He does with complete concentration and nothing can deter him. No amount of yellling shouting or small beatings on his tiny hands. Infact, he gets irritated scowls back at you and goes right back to where he left off.

His crawling is like a small baby elephant swinging its head from one end to the other like to shooo away some flies. He sleeps soundly and if he does get up, he just starts crying and starts crawling heading in the direction of the kitchen(I somehow feel he thinks I ain't around and hence). Now Sunny, bangs the door if he knows that someone is there on the other side of the door, he does that to me when I go to the washroom, as well as to meme, when she goes for bathing. And he continues to bang till the time one wouldn't open the door for him.

He loves to hold on to things and walk. Dinning chair is like his favorite toy, he keeps pushing and pulling each one of it, till they are all out of place.

The latest in his list of affections is the Teletubbies. He watches with his palms joined together and tucked right under his chin. Shocked is the word.

Time flies it sure does flies!!!

Sweet..

(not anymore) Boy...
has grown, he is going to be 8 months in a couple of days and he looks amazing A.M.A.Z.I.N.G with a sigh!!! Handsome as I saw him in my dreams :) and naughty as well.
Big beautiful eyes, amazingly handsome smile and now he coo's all the time and oh he laughs such a contagious laughter, even if I m upset it cheers me up.

Yesterday after I reached home, he went on with his singing 'da da da da da' and he just wouldn't stop. After he started saying 'am am am' which we concluded meant Amma, which was couple of months back, he just wudn't say anything else. And now with his cute 'da da da da' we are all concluding that he is saying 'dada' like chiku(her first words were daada, dachi, daaddy and not mumma mummy or whatever she wanted to call me). How mean is that!!!

He is so comfortable with his crawling now, and knows the places where he needs to check me, like if I am in the bedroom or he strains his neck to check if I am in the balcony, and if I am not he starts his crawling and doesn't stop till he reaches the Kitchen. This is even if I am calling him from another room or someplace else he wouldn 't stop till he is sure that I really am not in the kitchen.

He has such a darling look about himself, when you call out to him and he comes crawling and then he finds u looking at him and oh me gosh, there he smiles, his eyes twinkle and a blob of spit (Chiku n I call it 'thuki') just escaping his sweet lips.

He loves to reach out and stands so confidently holding on to anything, the trolley doors in the kitchen, the cabinet doors in the sitting area, walls, our legs, our clothes just about anything ya. Loves to grab his toys and throw it on the floor. He is trying to find a way to go back down on the floor, once he has done whatever he wants to do, standing.

When he is in his crib, he confidently moves around holding on to the crib railing. The other day, it was so funny to watch him, sort of toggle back n forth, looking at our food. He looked like Donald Duck walking back n forth.

He is such a foodie, can eat anything he lays his hands on. He always always and always is eyeing our colorful palate. Yesterday, I saw him enjoying some dal-rice with Amma.

His crawling is so cute, he pushes his entire self on his left hand and then right hand and instead of traversing straight, his head goes in the direction of his hands, so it goes at an angle.
Last evening, he crawled till the kitchen, instead of crawling few more paces ahead, he stretched his neck n peeped at me, then when I looked at him, he smiled his naughty smile, continued to crawl and then reached me.

Different

yet so similar...both these kids.

Sunny is 6 months old. And now he has decided to change his sleeping habits (Sighhhh!!!). If you know me, you know how painful that sigh is.

So now sunny wakes up as early (n i mean really early. IF YOU DON'T STOP THIS SUNNY, WAIT TILL U GROW UP BUDDY???), wants to be hugged and cuddled and wants u to play with him. Oh Jeez. I generally pat him to sleep, but then the poor boy won't sleep.
Just this morning he got up at 3am, played with me a little, but just wudn't stop crying. Somehow I put him back to sleep, n between crying and sleeping it was already 5 am.
I decided to give him his bottle of milk, and happily and with a cute smile dancing on his face he did pooh. After that he would just not let me be. I had to pick him up, soothe him, smile at him, put a bath, gave him a bottle of milk and after about almost an hour, he finally fell asleep. Phew. And then it was just time to get back to daily chores and get ready for work.

CHIKU -- when she was 6 months, would wake up early in the morning too, but I think around 6am, She would just want you to play with her, thats it. After about half n hour she would again fall off to sleep. There were days when we had to shake Chiku so vigorously to wake her up. Sigh!!!

13 September, 2011

Here comes...

Sunny...
He is going to be 6 months in a couple of days. Time as usual flew out of the window. From the time he wailed his lungs out, nights together, to today when he smiles at me when I talk to him, its just fascinating to see him grow so quickly and I still marvel at the discovery of new things about him, about me and everything about children, in general.

I am just reliving the day. March 12th was the date given for Sunny boy to arrive, when we went for checkup(one of the very few checkups that Su came for unlike during Mummu;s time when he was around all the time) the doctor was like its still not time, but yes anytime the baby should arrive. We were getting a lil agitated cos the doc kept saying 'not yet' for the next couple of days and kept saying that 'you should shift to vashi least there should be an emergency'.
And I was just not ready to park myself at anjies place least it should be incovenient for everybody. Finally on March 18th the doc was like, oh you are ready, if we induce you the baby should be delivered by end of the day.

Su, was so happy to hear that and he readily sided with the doc. We went for a quick lunch and in the meantime called up Amma, Chiku didi, Mama, Anne(tte mummy), Anklets, Anjie to tell them that the time has arrived. Went back to the hospital and on the way I became quiet. Su thought I was scared. WEll, I was actually recounting the previous incident of labour induction, and the process that went alongside it. WEll, honestly, I was recounting all the 'painful' times and trying to revise the breathing exercises. We reached the hospital at 4pm, after the first few painful processes, the nurse for a change advised me to walk as fast and as much as I can(which wasn't the case last time around. Mummu's time she just wudnt let me get up from the bed). Till 7 pm, the contractions were quite feeble n bearable and thankfully the hip exercises were relieving me of pain.
Anjie, came to visit me(that was very sweet) and whilst we were having a conversation(she asked me my age), I got a contraction. I don't know which one was more painful the contraction or the age question ;) . Anjie quickly decided to leave. It was 8 pm and the nurse again came to check. No progress. At this point, she made a general announcement that the baby will arrive only tomorrow. The maushi's were getting ready to leave for home. The other nurse had relaxed and ordered for some food and the doctor was informed. I was disappointed. To me it meant enduring the pain through out the night and being very tired on the baby's arrival.

But things were soon to be changed. 9pm everything changed. The nurse checked and was hurrying me to get up and start walking to the operation theatre. Mind you I walked to the OT(it was actually 10 steps away but I did walk. Mummu's time I have no memories of how I reached OT). Infact this time I walked on my own, from my room to the entrance of the OT and just when I was struggling with the door, the nurse shouted at the maushi to say 'how can you not help the patient?'. Once inside there was a big surprise for me. The OT was not ready, assuming the baby was only gonna arrive the next morning, nobody made any preparations. With the nurses shouting n abusing, I realised that the baby was gonna come out any min. The nurse was giving instructions to everyone, including me. Yes I was instructed to walk till the Operation table n lie down. I tried once, but the contraction was so sharp that I went and stood which felt much better. Nurse yelled at the maushi "put the patient on the table". There I was, literally pushed with a loud thud and the nurse got angry again "down throw her, I asked you to put the patient".

Between 9:15 to 10:04 all hell broke loose:
1. Doctor walked in, found the maushi's were not appropriately dressed ( as in no slippers, no cover on their head, hair flowing long) for the surgery/delivery, she refused to change into her own operation gown.
2. Maushis were standing aimlessly and were not understanding simple instructions given to them.
3. The nurse was not sure if anethesist could make it, since she had said she will be out of town.
4. The IV that was on my left hand had slipped off and veins had swelled up and were bleeding. I brought this to the nurses attention and no matter how much she would try the I.V wud come off.
5. I started to push and the nurse kept shouting at me 'not now'. Just breathe and relax. Cos the doc was not Ready.
6. The nurse and doc were having conversation, I had crams in my leg and I had no place to keep my feet, so I decided to take liberties, one feet on the nurses tummy n one feet on the docs tummy.

Finally, everything fell in place. The nurse, doctors and maushis all were ready and were encouraging me to push. The first time, I pushed only during half the contraction. Second time, I pushed, felt better and third time I felt the melon coming out. I knew I had a baby boy(the way the doctor was holding the baby, the bump was facing me :) so you see I knew).
I checked the time 10:02 pm(I was like if they forget to note the time like they did during Mummu, then???).

Before passing out, the doctor asked me do you know wat you hv got(unlike the last time, when the doc remembered only after good 45 mins to let me know that I have a Girl now)?

I smiled and said 'Yes, a Boy'.

Sunny boy finally arrived.
